A death doula, also known as an end-of-life doula or death midwife, provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to individuals who are nearing the end of their lives and their families. Offering guidance and companionship throughout the dying process, helping to navigate the practical and emotional aspects of death and dying. While working with my clients, I offer full support and will be with you through the entire experience.
I provide a compassionate presence, emotional and spiritual support by offering a listening ear, allowing my client and thier loved ones to express their fears, worries, and desires surrounding death, allowing for meaningful conversations, and creating a safe space for reflection and processing of emotions.
I assist with practical tasks such as creating advance directives, making funeral arrangements, and organizing end-of-life paperwork. My purpose is to empower my client to have a voice in their end-of-life care and decision-making process. I help them articulate their wishes, preferences, and goals for their final days, ensuring that their needs are respected and met to the best extent possible.
I offer comforting measures such as reading or story telling, soft, light ,hand and foot massage, gentle touch, Rieki and aromatherapy to alleviate physical discomfort and promote relaxation. I complement the care provided by medical professionals, hospice teams, and other end-of-life caregivers by offering continuous support that extends beyond clinical care. I help fill those gaps in care, ensuring that mt clients and their families feel supported every step of the way.
I offer to assist my client in legacy work, creating a project that will help them document their life stories, share final messages or wishes, and create meaningful mementos for their loved ones. This process can bring a sense of closure and fulfillment, as well as leave a lasting legacy for future generations. I believe it helps my client to reflect on their life and legacy to move through some possible regrets, unfinished conversations, unshared wishes or forgiveness they wish to grant to themself as well as another. I believe it is important to encourage them to share their stories, memories, and wisdom with their loved ones. They are the gate keepers of wisdom and it needs to be passed on.
As a death doula, I help educate my clients and families about the dying process, demystifying it and offering guidance on what to expect physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This knowledge can alleviate fear and anxiety surrounding death, allowing for a more peaceful transition. I provide information and resources about the dying process, end-of-life options, and grief support to empower my client and their families to make informed decisions.
I facilitate meaningful rituals and ceremonies, no matter what your religion or faith may be, that honor my clients life and bring closure for both my client and their loved ones. I work specifically with the one transitioning to create the type of ritual, cereomony or spiritual practices tailored to their beliefs and values, that they would feel most celebrated by. As an ordained Minister I also can perform life celebrations, traditional funerals ,cremation ceremony , green funerals, or home funerals, whatever way my client wishes to be honored as they transistion home.
Offering compassionate and non-judgmental support to both my client nearing the end of life and their loved ones, to me brings a comforting presence during what can be a challenging and emotionally charged time. I am here to be a comforting presence during the dying process, ensuring that mt client feels supported and cared for until the end. After the death of a loved one, I continue to offer support to the bereaved, helping them navigate the grieving process and find meaning and healing in their loss. I usually stay connected with loved ones for about 6 weeks after the death.
Overall, my job as a death doulas is to create a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience for both my client and their loved ones, fostering acceptance, healing, and a sense of closure. It is vital for me to ensure that the end-of-life experience is as peaceful, meaningful, and honoring as possible for both my client and their loved ones. I am here to help you to have a good death.
I believe that we should celebrate our departure as much as we celebrate our arrival, after all, we are merely reversing course.
I want to take the "taboo" out of death, the fear out of the "unknown", and allow the sacred space for a holy celebration for those who are leaving the earth plane. As a favorite teacher of mine, Ram Dass said" We are all just walking each other home."
It would be my honor to walk you home.
Blessings,
Lynn
